Obituary of Mary Kay Phelps

Mary Kay (Ruane) Phelps (54) of Tampa, FL passed away on Wednesday, November 27th. She is preceded in death by her husband, Brian, and mother, Margaret (Peggy). She is survived by her three children Megan, Abigail, and Brian, her father, Edward and his wife Joanna, her brother, Edward and his wife Sue, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Kay was born and raised in Scranton Pennsylvania. She graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Flourtown, PA. where she was always sharing stories and fond memories of times spent with her brother, cousins, and childhood friends. Mary Kay was a devoted wife and soulmate to her late husband, Brian and they raised three children together in Tampa, FL. While Kay found professional success early in life and dedicated herself to a flourishing career where she excelled in leadership, it was clear to all that her favorite role was as a Mother.

She was intelligent, gracious, and had the most outgoing personality; turning any stranger into a friend. She found peace and comfort through prayer and had strong faith. Kay had a love for all, was very compassionate, and had a kind and giving spirit. She could brighten any room with her excitement towards life and make you laugh at her quick-witted jokes. Mary Kay enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends and family, playing golf, the beach, and animals especially her dogs who were true companions. Kay loved to watch sports of every variety, especially the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Florida State Seminoles. She will always be remembered for her enormously caring heart, helping hand, and loving embrace.

As many may know Mary Kay had a love for this time of year. The Christmas Holiday was her absolute favorite, which she looked forward too fondly with great joy an excitement. It is at her children’s request with hopes to embrace her spirit of love for this season that they ask you to consider coming dressed in you most festive holiday attire. Please note anything goes from a simple Santa hat, to a reindeer tie, or even your most outlandish ugly Christmas sweater. This is to celebrate her life and remember her the way she would have wished with a big smile.
