Obituary of Maryann A Wickman
Maryann Wickman peacefully went home to the Lord on December 4, 2020. She was born on June 18, 1934, to Irving and Agnes (Cosgrove) Wickman in Brooklyn, New York. She received her Bachelors in Elementary Education and Music from Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore, MD. She then earned her Master’s in American Studies from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ.
Maryann was not only a beloved science teacher, mentor, and educator, but an exceptional example of the tenants of her Catholic faith to her students, friends, family, and all who knew her. She was known for her high standards for academic achievement and discipline, as well as her quick wit and intelligence. For more than 40 years, she taught at Nativity Catholic School in Brandon, FL. After she retired from the Diocese of St. Petersburg, she worked tirelessly on Nativity’s Yearbook creating precious memories for all students, teachers, and parents. Maryann truly cared for each of her students, remembered each by name, and showed an interest in their careers/lives long after they graduated from Nativity. Her passion was coordinating Nativity’s Alumni gatherings to bring her former students back together so they would stay involved with their school and parish. Maryann was blessed with musical talents; she had a beautiful singing voice and played the piano. In addition to her academic work, she remained active in teaching Safe Driving courses through AARP.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Agnes (Cosgrove) Wickman. She is survived by her brother, Charles Wickman, along with many extended family members and friends.
